He continued to record while in prison, recording two albums almost entirely over the telephone. After being released from prison, he recorded three more albums, and in 2001, he relocated to Sacramento, California, and founded Thizz Entertainment. In 2004, an unknown assailant opened fire on his car while he was driving down the highway in Kansas City, Missouri. He was pronounced dead on the scene. His tombstone was later stolen from the cemetery where he was buried in Oakland.
