At Georgia Tech he was a tight ends coach in 1996 and an offensive line coach from 1997 to 1999. He was offensive line coach at Georgia in 2000 and tight ends and offensive tackles coach at Tennessee in 2001. Marrone joined the NFL’s New York jets as offensive line coach from 2002 to 2005. He served as offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2008. He got his first head coaching job at Syracuse from 2009 to 2012 before getting his first NFL head coaching job with the Buffalo Bills in 2013.
