An on-air incident, involving the Rutgers University Women’s basketball team, led Mcguirk and Imus being fired in 2007. Mcguirk referred to the team as “hardcore hos”. Since then, he was a special guest on Jay Severin’s radio show as well as appearing on Fox’s Hannity & Colmes to discuss his dismissal. A few months after his dismissal, Mcguirk was reunited with Imus for the controversial show on WABC. As well as serving as a producer, Mcguirk had an on-air role on the show.
