It was in 1951 that he set up his aviation training company FlightSafety International. In 1968, he took the company public and in 2006 he sold it to fellow billionaire Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway for $1.5 billion in stock. Aside from airplanes and flying, Ueltschi was also the Chairman Emeritus of Orbis International, one of the largest blindness charity foundations in the world. Furthermore, he and his son Jim founded HelpMeSee in 2010 in an attempt to address cataract blindness in the developing world.
